Because there's an election going on in the UK, you may have noticed.

And so the interview that we're rerunning today is one from back in 2017 with a then 34-year-old member of parliament. We released it originally with the

episode title Life in Westminster. And the idea then was it would be nice for me to meet a typical

backbencher, someone youngish, talk about what it was like entering British government for the first time, you know,

that institution. What is it like when you first get called to the lobby to vote? How do you deal

with your constituents? What's the strain it puts on your family, etc? And the backbencher we chose

to speak to was a certain Wes Streeting, who back then you may not have heard of, you'll probably

have heard of now, and almost certainly we'll be seeing a lot more of very shortly, because if this

election goes the way everyone expects, Wes is about to become Britain's health secretary.

Not a job I would envy. But even back when we did this

interview seven years ago, I think Wes's career trajectory was fairly evident. He's a great
