He says, hey, Kav, zone five here in Ontario.

I have some crowns of asparagus that I've not planted

because my construction of my garden beds was delayed. Is it okay to plant them this year sometime in the late fall?

So they remain dormant and sprout up next spring. Or can I even store the dormant roots or

crowns in a cool environment until next year to plant them?

Or will they simply die either way from not having been planted already?

So, to answer this question, as always, we're going to look at the deeper question.

Let's just talk about asparagus.

How do we grow asparagus and hopefully by answering the general overview of how to grow asparagus, which is a unique and odd plant,

we can answer Joel's question. So first we have to understand what it is. It is a perennial

bulb and stem vegetable and it comes up every single spring.

So the trick of asparagus is that they take around two to three years to get started and

produce.

So the sooner you get those in the ground,

the better.

Here's the beauty.

There's that old quote,

the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago,

the second best time is today.

Well, it's pretty much the same for asparagus.
