Now, if you remember the hype around the vegan sausage roll

peddled by Gregs the Baker earlier this year,

well, you could have listened to the chatter about it

and asked yourself whether human societies are on the brink

of an historic shift in diet away from meat.

Now, if that was really to happen in a significant way, it would be a huge change in consumer

behaviour. But let's remember that hitherto most societies, as they get richer, tend to eat more

animal protein, not less. Well, our topic today is the rise of vegetarian and vegan food

products. Let's try to work out what is going on here in terms of changing diets, changing

food technology, and we're all this will end. And I have three guests who are in the business

to help us out. And first up is Kevin Brennan, who was the chief executive of

Korn. Kevin, you've been at the top there since 2010. Can you just give us a history of the product?

Because it goes back really quite a number of decades, and one might say as the sort of an early

innovator in this field.

Yeah, that's absolutely right.

It actually goes back to the 1960s, believe it or not.

And that was actually an era where there was a great concern that the world was going to run

out of food.
