It was quite a night.

With a full house in Pasadena and thousands more watching the webcast,

an amazing group of explorers gathered on the evening of July 14th.

We waited for word that New Horizons had successfully completed its close encounter with a world that has fascinated human since its

discovery in 1930. You'll hear excerpts from that celebration and we'll get a

New Horizons mission update from Emily Lockwala.

First to join me on stage at Southern California Public Radio's Crawford Family Forum

was our friend Bruce Betts.

Bruce was quickly followed by Arizona State University's Mars Explorer, best-selling

author, and president of the Planetary Society, Jim Bell.

You'll hear from Jim and then the Project Scientist for the Cassini Mission that continues its exploration of Saturn,

our most frequent guest, Linda Spilker.

As we began, we were less than an hour from receiving the signal that would electrify space fans around the world.

I wonder if people appreciate, Matt, the drama right now. Okay?

The spacecraft went through that system. You saw the bullseye pattern, right? And we don't know if there

are faint rings that we didn't see, debris, stuff coming

off of some of the other moons.
