And I am in 89th Athens here in Grace. Janis Farifakis, thank you so much for joining us today.

It's an absolute honor to have you. So over recent years, you've been at the forefront of calls

for a progressive green new deal in Europe. Can you begin by telling us how your work either

connects or differs from the green new deal framework in the US and also the green new deal offered

by the European Parliament and what some of the key policy pillars are? Well, let's begin with

not so much the European Parliament. The European Parliament is really nonexistent.

It's the European Commission. The European Commission has a so-called green deal, not a green new deal.

This omission of the word new is intentional. And it's very significant.

Because let's remind ourselves, custom minds back to the new deal, Roosevelt's new deal.

What made the new deal? A new deal. It was the notion that in the midst of

stagnation, depression, recession, whatever, the great depression back then.

During capitalism, spasms that produce very low levels of investment, low levels of

depression. What we need is not more taxation. What we need is to understand that capitalism during
