That's T.O. Or we'll call him T.O. T. is not his real name. A few weeks ago I got a call from my friend Susan Randall, the private investigator you might remember from previous shows. She said that T.O. who is a former client of hers from a case years ago.

She said he'd just been released from federal prison seven days before

after serving a six-year bid. He was trying to figure out what to do next and he was also

clearly trying to figure out how to acclimate to the world outside of the inside

where people are not locked up.

Anyway, Susan said that she was having lunch with T.O.

and did I want to come meet them?

And I did.

And then he and I drove down to the waterfront in Burlington to talk in my car in a spectacular rainstorm.

I'm not going to get into what his charges were.

It's not what this conversation was about.

I wanted to try to understand what it's like to be seven

days out of jail with no housing, no money, no family, and no obvious job skills. I wanted to know what it's like to adjust to freedom after years of
