A league document indicates that the league has privately admitted to the umpires union that the new automatic ball strike system needs, quote, refinements to its accuracy, unquote, less than one week into the season.

The system currently tracks the pitch where it crosses the halfway point of the plate, but the league now admits it should be slightly further forward towards the mound to better account for breaking

balls. The result is that many pitches have been mistracted by as much as a full inch. Baseball
