Welcome to the Eurointelligence podcast. I'm Wolfgang Munchau and with me are Susanna Muncheng and Jack Smith. Today we would like to talk about Poland. Poland after the election. The opposition has won the election. Donald Tusk will, we presume, now form a government. The Law and Justice Party will go into opposition. Susanna, you wrote

about this story this week. What do you expect to change? Immediately, there are not much, actually.

There were at least not the things that we Europeans were hoping for, Brussels and the capital

cities. It's actually not a win because it's just to be clear, the elections, the PSP actually came first,

and therefore they will have the first on the mandate on building a government,

but they don't have enough votes because they will have to build a coalition.

And the coalition partner performed worse.

It's a nationalist confederation group that didn't get enough votes, much less than predicted in the polls.

But we do expect that the president will go ahead and give them as a first group the mandate first.

Before it actually goes by mid-December to the next to Donald Tusk,

the opposition party, position groups, the other two big opposition groups, the left, and

the third way to form a government. And it looks like, from the onset, it looks like this,

this is going to happen early next year.

Donald Tusser, he was on the campaign trail.

He was promising that from day one on, he would get the recovery fund money unleashed.

And that is a promise that he will be unlikely to uphold because it would mean that he will have to roll back

the legislation, especially when it comes to the justice reforms that he said introduced over

the last couple of years. And that is not something that it can be done so easily, partly also

because it has to be agreed by government bodies or by judicial bodies that are actually

full of piss.

So that will not be so easy and so fast.
