I think we're entering an era where videos cannot be blindly trusted.

In many ways, this is already true.

You don't even need deep fakes.

This week, deep fakes were on my mind.

The election is upon us where there are various doctored videos flying around the world.

Some of them more convincing than others.

There was that Nancy Pelosi video, the summer, where she was supposedly drunk.

She wasn't.

You may have seen the video of Boris Johnson endorsing Jeremy Corbyn.

He didn't.

But it really does make you wonder the rise of this kind of the rise of deepfakes, what the future holds as it becomes easier and easier to make really convincing videos for any number of nefarious reasons.

So I tracked down the man that the MIT Technology Review has called the world's top deep fake artist.

He is Howe Lee, and he's a computer science professor at the University of Southern California.

He runs a startup called Pinscreen.

He's really good at deepfakes, and he has amazing hair.

Look him up, you'll see what I'm talking about.

But anyway, because he's down in L.A. and I'm up here in the Bay, we had to do this over the phone.
