How do you pick the ultimate hunting rifle?

Well, folks, you've got to know the task that you need to accomplish with that rifle.

You've got to know the features and characteristics of rifles that will accomplish that task most effectively.

And then, very importantly, folks, you need to know what you like in a rifle of the various types.

And there will be a lot that are suitable, right?

You've got to know what you like because you should find a lot of happiness and pleasure in using that rifle to go hunting.

Now, today, folks, we're going to focus on rifles that are suitable for backcountry hunting,

really for a broad spectrum of Western and open country hunting, but that have the characteristics

that make it suitable for mountain hunting, right?

So maximum weight is going to be limited, right?

We don't want to be carrying a railroad tie up the mountain. And it's got to have a certain level of durability and reliability

that will stand by you if you're in real harsh country for a week or 10 days with no access

to a gunsmith or a gun shop that can help you repair that rifle.

We're going to talk about how to choose that ultimate rifle for you. Now folks, the backcountry

is hard on rifles. That's because of a variety of things.

Weather, of course, is a big one. Terrain is another. If you fall on it or whatnot. And then,

of course, that aforementioned condition that usually when you're deep in the back country,

even just anywhere remote in the West,

you might be out in Wyoming on the plains, you know, with a good gravel road at your back,

and yet you might be three or four hours drive from the nearest gun shop.

So there are various characteristics of backcountry hunting that suggest reliability.
