Welcome to Grow Cook Eat Arrange, the podcast of me, Sarah Raven, and my dear friend Arthur Parkinson.

We are going to talk about something that is so on our minds at the moment, which is drought-tolerant plants for containers.

Arthur's whole garden is based around containers

and the flower yard his wonderful book is about literally making a sort of coral

fantasia of a jungle of luscious deliciousness in a very small space all in containers

and at Perch Hill under the influence of Josie our head gardener and of Arthur,

whereas 10 years ago maybe I had 30 pots in the garden, now I have 300.

So it's now at this time of year that we're really pulling together ideas of combinations, colours, form, etc.

So the whole stuff that we've talked about in episodes before. But we thought it would be

really good to concentrate this episode on drought tolerance. And so the things that you could water every few days or even

maybe just once a week, a really, really good soaking in a barrow, leaving it in for half

an hour and then taking it out to drain, that kind of thing. So if you're busy at work or perhaps

you've got a second home or whatever it is and you just can't get to watering.

These are the plants that I would recommend or we would both recommend.

Well, I kind of, the reason I want to talk about this is because I've

started to think about it a lot more than when I wrote the flower yard really. I mean,
