About the speaker: Joseph Marine, MD, MBA, FACC, FHRS, is a board-certified clinical cardiac electrophysiologist who practices primarily at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He is a Professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and holds appointments as Vice-Director of the Division of Cardiology and Section Chief of Cardiology for Johns Hopkins Community Physicians. He trained at UC San Francisco Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School, Boston University Medical Center, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

1:12.6	I spent about half of my time in clinical practice, seeing patients with arrhythmias, doing procedures
1:18.6	like ablations and device implantations and so forth.
1:22.6	But the other half of my time, mostly with administration and society work. I've been interested in this
1:29.3	issue since about 2015 on the bill to legalize assisted suicide was first introduced in Maryland,
1:35.9	got first interested through my church and then just kind of as a health policy issue. And I think
1:41.1	that as we'll talk about, it's really one of the most important medical, ethical issues that we're facing in our time.
1:48.0	So I think it's worth knowing something about it.
