Okay, so we are jumping back into the virtue of selfishness written by Ein Rand.

And today I thought we'd look at this concept that I think is very important.

You know, the namesake of the show is what is money.

One of the immediate questions beneath that that I think is even more confounding is what is value.

Something that we all talk about a lot. We talk about the importance of it. You know,

we have personally held values. We, we try to create value in the world. We, um, you know,

we denominate economic value and money. And, um, it's how we determine what enterprises are satisfying the wants of humans versus not.

And it's something very closely related to action.

So I'd like to just peer into Rand's mind about how she defines value. And I'll read just a small excerpt here to get

started. And she writes that value is that which one acts to gain and or keep. The concept of value

is not a primary. It presupposes an answer to the question of value to whom and for what.

It presupposes an entity capable of acting to achieve a goal in the face of an alternative.

Or no alternative exists, no goals and no values are possible.

So this is something that's very important.

Value seems to be that which guides human action.

And human action is what we're dealing with in almost every circumstance of life.

Sure.

So, you know, value is that which one acts to gain or keep? So the values, in a sense,

are human wants, are the wants of an individual, but not just a want, right? I can want to

Ferrari. There's a big poster on my wall, but I never do anything to get one. I never try to get a

job and try to make a lot of money and try to pursue that.

And it's not really a value.
