Welcome in everyone to the PFF NFL show. I am your host Gordon McGuinness, joined today by Dalton Wasserman, here for a quick breakdown of the Philadelphia Eagles 26 to 18 victory over the Washington Commanders.

0:17.8

Gives the Eagles a game and a half lead in the NFC East. And this was a

0:23.3

game that I think the scoreline flatters the Eagles a little bit in the end because it just got

0:28.7

a little bit away from the commanders. I think there's things that the commanders can take away from

0:32.4

this game that they'll be really content with. I think ultimately though it's the third time this season we've

0:38.8

seen the commanders. The previous two times against the Baltimore Ravens and the Pittsburgh Steelers

0:42.3

were by, you can see that they are not quite at that level of those top teams yet and

0:47.4

there's still a little bit for them to go. I'm going to jump right in with my stat that told

0:52.9

the story of the game.

1:01.2

And this is Terry McLaren's stat line from this game. Commander Star Receiver, two targets,

1:05.9

one reception, 10 yards. That even doesn't tell the full story because the guy I want to focus on here is Eagles rookie cornerback, Quinion Mitchell. He and McLaren and Mitchell were lined up opposite each other on almost 40 snaps last night, and over 20 of those were on pass plays.

1:18.6

The commanders did not target McLaren a single time, not once, when they were lined up opposite each other.

1:25.0

And this is a scenario where when the PFF grades come out later,

1:28.1

I don't think they're going to tell the full story. And that's because the grades from our guys

1:31.7

collecting the data when they're grading a game, that's coming based on targets. So Mitchell's

1:36.5

going to get like a small bump for every play he's not targeted with his grade, but he's not

1:40.5

necessarily getting the full credit for like a lockdown performance.

1:49.1

So when you see his PFF grade and it'll probably come out somewhere in the 70s for this game,

1:53.9

it's important to understand that it's kind of impossible for him to get a higher grade than that when he's not being targeted. You have to kind of go in and make some of those plays in there.

1:58.8

And then if you extrapolated that over the course of a season,

2:01.5

if you had every single game where you were grading in the 70s

2:04.4

because you weren't being targeted,

...
