Summary

This week, Mike and Jay start things off by talking about the terror attacks in Brussels, focusing on how the three people most likely to be the next president – Clinton, Trump, and Cruz – reacted. Then it’s off to Cuba (and Argentina) with President Obama and his whole family. The Guys then take a … Continue reading "PG47: Brussels, Cuba, Primary Updates, and Anti-Gay Laws"Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-politics-guys/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy Learn more about your ad choices. Good morning. Good afternoon. Good evening, wherever you are. And welcome to the politics guys with your host, Jay Carson and Michael Baranowski.

0:17.3

Welcome to the politics guys. I'm Michael Baranowski, a political scientist at Northern Kentucky

0:22.3

University. My co-host this week, as always, is Cleveland Area Attorney and sometime Republican

0:27.7

strategist Jay Carson. Our top story this week is the fallout from Tuesday's terrorist attacks

0:33.8

in Brussels, Belgium, that left 31 dead and over 300 wounded. This was followed on Friday

0:39.0

by another ISIS suicide bombing, this one in an Iraqi soccer stadium, which killed at least

0:44.1

29 people. Now, as we've talked about before on the show, the Civil War in Syria, it's now in its

0:49.6

sixth year, has allowed ISIS to expand its territory and its operations. And while there are no regular

0:55.6

U.S. ground forces in Syria, special operations troops have been at work there. For instance, this

1:01.1

week they killed a top ISIS commander responsible for organizing the group's financing, and the

1:06.3

week before that U.S. airstrikes took out their minister of war. Now, it seems to me President Obama's

1:12.3

response has been kind of more of the same under the belief that the U.S. is slowly destroying

1:17.6

terrorist group. And as expected, at least expected by me, Republicans hoping to get Obama's job

1:23.6

are calling for much more aggressive action. Donald Trump, for instance, once again reiterated

1:29.0

his call for banning Muslims entering the U.S., which is a really popular position among

1:33.6

Republican primary voters. Ted Cruz, I think, went one step further, suggesting that local

1:38.8

law enforcement should patrol and secure Muslim neighborhoods in the U.S. before they become radicalized, while at the

1:46.4

same time, ironically, arguing that Trump didn't have the background to conduct the non-insane foreign

1:51.2

policy. And then there's Hillary Clinton, who I think was far more moderate, which kind of

1:55.3

makes sense, considering that she's running partly on a, if you like Obama, you'll like me,

2:00.0

platform. And also, of course, you'll like me platform.

2:04.5

And also, of course, she was his secretary of state for four years.
