Summary

Peyton Corinne is a love story enthusiast. As a teenager, she would write fan-fiction about her favourite series, then she self-published her own writing whilst working as a teacher, because she hit it big on TikTok.

The episode is a full break-down on why if you market yourself smartly and keep up with social trends, your book will find an audience, and traditional publishers will find you.

Her new novel is 'Unloved', it tells the story of star hockey player Matt 'Freddy' Fredderic, who can do everything at school but pass his exams. When he gets a tutor to help him out... a pining love story starts to develop between them.

We discuss why there will always be a happy ending, and how Peyton works the rest of her story out to reach that conclusion. Also, hear why she likes to write in long-hand, the little annoyances of writing full-time, and why getting a good editor can solve every problem.

Hello, welcome along to a brand new episode of writer's routine, where this week we're chatting

0:13.4

to Peyton Corrin, once a teenager writing fan fiction, and then a self-published schoolteacher,

0:20.4

and now, thanks to the marvels of

0:22.7

booktok and virality, she's a full-time bestseller. We discuss why getting published

0:28.3

the traditional way means getting more eyes on the work, more experienced feedback, and how

0:33.7

that's helped enormously. I love having a sounding board.

0:38.5

And I think that is something to consider a lot of the time when you're selecting an editor

0:42.7

or when you're deciding to be traditionally published and seek that route versus indie.

0:48.8

Having to take criticism is a really big thing.

0:52.9

But finding the person who does it in the right way

0:56.2

that makes you feel like, you know, the first time I got my first edit note back, I was terrified

1:01.4

that she was going to just rip it to shreds. And I was just sitting there like, oh, no, I'm making

1:05.5

myself sick. And then when I got it, the whole only thing I felt after reading it was excitement to go back and change these things because her ideas were so good.

1:15.1

Like, oh my God, I wish I'd thought of that.

1:17.9

Also, why now she reads books that she once loved with a tiny bit of envy?

1:23.6

Being a reader and a writer at the same time, especially when you're actively drafting, is always hard. Because there's just this, like, little bit of comparison. Like, when I was writing just for me before it was published, and I was reading, I could read something amazing and be like, oh, this is the best thing ever. Like, I want to read it again and again. Now I'm like, why can't I write like that? You know, there's

1:44.1

this like little bit of that kind of, oh, dang, that was really good. That was a great idea,

1:49.7

which would normally be like, oh, that was great. You know, there's, there's a change and a shift

1:54.1

in the way that you view movies and books just as a creative. It's all on the way with Peyton Corrin in this week's Writers' Routine.

2:10.1

Yes, welcome along to the show.

2:12.0

This is Writers Routine.
