Today on Roon's soup, we welcome back the one and only Peter lavender to talk about, you guess it, Lovecraft.

In particular, we focus on one of Peter's books from a few years back, The Dark Lord, which I've referenced multiple times

on the blog and is even quoted in Starships, as well as Peter's looming next book, which is also

his first novel, The Lovecraft Code.

Onwards then. Mr. Levender, welcome back.

Thank you very much for having me back.

Oh now I've been looking forward to this one. We ran out of time in the first podcast and I desperately wanted to talk to you about Lovecraft.

So question one, Peter, when did you first encounter Lovecraft and what was it about his work that sort of enticed you or hooked you straight away?

Well I was never a fan of Gothic horror, I was never a fan of horror fiction in general. I think the

closest I came maybe to reading that sort of thing was Dennis Wheatley, those three or four novels he did which were based on his

you know contacts with Alistair Crowley and the OTO and the Golden Dawn. The Devil

rides out to the Devil A Daughter of the Satanist, those are the three that

stand out.

And I read those...

I didn't like that they use them?

No, you didn't like the book they used Dark Forces?

I just re-read that at the beginning of the year is all.

Oh no, I didn't, I didn't, don't even know about that.

Oh yeah, that's his, um, actually it's quite up your alley in a way, that's him,
