Peter Jackson's Layshaugh Not Grow Old, which is in UK cinemas now, is a startling

and technically stunning documentary about the First World War, which uses brand new technology

to restore and upgrade archive footage shot during that war, which ended a hundred years

ago this year.

The new footage, colourised for a large, long stretch during the film, offers an eye-opening

insight into the horrors the soldiers went through in that war, but also shines a light

on the unexpected camaraderie that they forged amidst such horrendous circumstances.

This Jackson's first documentary proper and is a must-see.

Jackson braven a dose of jet lag that would floor a Nazgul, came into the giant biggie

superfan Nick DeSemlian about how and why he made this film.
