Summary

Dr. Peter Goeman from Shepherd's Theological Seminary joins the podcast to discuss Dispensational eschatology and some of the objections to it such as whether the church has replaced Israel, whether Scofield got his idea of the rapture from a demon possessed girl and was funded by the Rothchilds, whether the premillenial view is represented in the early church, and more.

If you remember like the liberal movement in the mid-1900s, that was coming out of the postmill all-mill circles.

And what ends up happening, you have like Gresham Machen who like creates an alliance with the dispensational pre-millennialists.

0:14.0

And the reason was because they were, they were so glued to the text.

In fact, one of my mentors, Larry Pedigrew,

0:22.3

used to have a saying, which he probably got from somewhere else,

0:24.9

but pre-millennialists don't go liberal.

You know, Welcome once again to the Conversations That Matter podcast. I'm your host, John Harris. We have a treat for you today. I have received, I don't know how many requests to talk about eschatology over the years and briefly stated i know i've explained this in more

0:55.6

detail in previous podcast but the reason i haven't delved into this much is because my focus has been on

1:01.6

other i think more pressing issues related to social justice and now liberalism and those kinds of

1:08.8

things in the church and um it's not because I don't think

1:11.9

eschatology matters because it certainly does. And it's not because I don't think it's interesting

1:16.6

because I think there are things about it that are interesting. Obviously, if the Bible's

1:20.1

interesting, then what it says about the end times is also interesting. But I've just, I've wanted

1:26.9

to, I think, keep an alliance together of people from

1:31.9

varying eschatological views who are focused on things like, let's make sure that we're

1:37.7

opposing abortion and transgender stuff and in libraries and in schools and other social matters, immigration and

1:47.0

all the things that, of course, if you're a regular listener, you know we talk about.

1:50.8

But it has come time for me to delve into this topic. And I'm going to do it as fairly as I

1:57.7

know how to do it, respecting the scholarly process, and also giving you,

2:03.0

who I consider to be, some really good, articulate voices on these topics.

2:08.3

And so we're going to delve into a number of different eschatological viewpoints for your

2:12.3

benefit. So you can understand better if that's something you haven't studied in detail as much.
