Hello, and welcome to How to Take Over the World. This is Ben Wilson.

Today I am doing an episode on the Apostle Peter, the first pope.

In doing my reading and research for the Jesus episode, I was really struck by the character of Peter.

He is Jesus' chief apostle.

He's the one who takes over the church when Jesus ascends to heaven.

And I was really struck and surprised by his character because in most interactions that

Jesus has with him, Jesus is like disparaging or criticizing him or Peter is failing in some

way.

It's not at all what you would expect.

So I wanted to figure out this character and what it was that made him special that made Jesus want to select him even though he was so heavily criticized.

We don't have a lot of sources for the life of Peter.

So this is going to be entirely off of the four Gospels and the book of Acts in the New Testament.

And this is going to be a subscriber-only episode.

It's basically a mini-episode. I think it's going to be about 10, 15 minutes long, something like that.
