Summary

This week is a very special episode! We bring you the first recording of Pete Rollin’s Pints & Parables. Pete gave this talk in Grand Rapids, Michigan in front of a live audience. We selected a handful of the parables performed for this very special recording. Pete is a provocative writer, philosopher, storyteller and public speaker who has gained an international reputation for overturning traditional notions of religion and forming “churches” that preach the Good News that we can’t be satisfied, that life is difficult, and that we don’t know the secret. Peter gained his higher education from Queens University, Belfast and has earned degrees (with distinction) in Scholastic Philosophy (BA Hons), Political Theory (MA) and Post-Structural thought (PhD). Peter has written multiple books including: Insurrection, The Idolatry of God, The Orthodox Heretic and The Divine Magician. www.peterrollins.net Facebook: @OrthodoxHeretic Twitter: @PeterRollins Here are some live event to check out! more at peterrollins.net Pints and Parables in Detroit, Oct 20 https://t.co/QChdaR2Xpr?ssr=true and Building On Fire: Pyrotheology and the Pursuit of Life Before Death - Detroit, Oct 22 https://t.co/tTdSxi8mvv?ssr=true If you’re digging what we’re doing here consider making a small donation. 0:02.1

And we were so lucky are fans of Pete Rollins and have followed his work. He does these special little pints and parables

0:22.2

events. And we were so lucky that he actually did one in our area. So we drove up to Grand Rapids

0:28.5

a couple months ago. And we've been sitting on this for so long and have been like, you know,

0:35.6

chomping at the bit to put it out. We've been shopping at the bit.

0:38.4

And I think this is the perfect, perfect time because after this, this was only the second time he'd ever done this. Yeah. And it went really, really well. But he's still kind of fine-tuning it, and he's done lots more. And there's lots more on the books. So if you like what you hear, which you will, you're going to really, really like this.

0:37.8

This is something completely different, completely new.

0:40.4

Instead of a lot of information, what we have is sort of a deconstructive medium that almost works like a Rochak test. Rochak test? How do you say that? Rorschach test? Yeah. Okay, there you go. I always thought there was like a cat, like shack, like Roershack.

1:13.5

We could both be wrong.

1:14.6

I have no idea.

1:15.4

I don't really even care.

1:16.5

But anyway, these parables, unlike a lot of the content that John and I bring you and curate

1:21.3

and then even talk about ourselves, there's lots of just material information data

1:26.2

to be looked at and dissected and, you know,

1:29.4

wrestled about and argued over. You can't really wrestle with or argue, you can't wrestle with,

1:34.7

but you can't really argue with a story. A story is something that does something to us in an

1:40.2

indirect way. So that's really what's going on here. And the kind of format that you're going to be

1:46.1

hearing is a live recording of pints and parables. But then at Pete's recommendation, when we asked him

1:52.7

how he wanted us to present this to you guys, he said, well, you know, this is the first time I've

1:57.5

done this. So instead of just putting it all out there, why don't you kind of guide people into what this is supposed to be about by just taking a few of the parables out. He didn't want to release the whole thing yet because there's going to be an opportunity for us to do that down the road. And this is something we're partnering with him on. And so what what John and I are going to do is we are going to almost take this experience with you,

2:20.4

you know, listen, and we're going to flip our mics on.

2:22.8

And just like Pete recommended, we're just going to kind of provide some thoughts, not explanation.
