When 37-year-old mayor of South Bend, Indiana, Pete Buttigieg announced he was running for president at January of 2019.

He had little to no name recognition with voters.

That quickly changed as he began appearing on cable news

shows and participating in town halls, showcasing his multilingual skills, Mayor Pete began

regularly polling among the top five presidential candidates.

I have a different kind of propulsion when it comes to dealing with these issues because they're

personal. You know, what the world is going to look like in the 2050s isn't just something

I think about or write about or wonder about. It's hopefully going to be my life too. And that's

why making sure we actually do something about climate change, making sure we actually have a fiscally

sustainable path. I know it's not

as fashionable in my party to talk about deficits, but you look at what the Republican Congress did

blowing a trillion dollar hole in our budget with a tax cut for the rich that America did not need.

These problems will be visited on the heads of not just my children and grandchildren, but me and people in my generation too.

And I think it gives me an ability to speak to those issues.
