Hey everyone. So usually our show begins by introducing a topic or a story that you don't hear about every day.

Well, that's clearly not the case when it comes to Putin's invasion of Ukraine.

The entire world is watching minute by minute.

We see footage of reckless destruction, courageous acts by Ukrainian citizens and Russian protesters,

we hear the stories of refugees as they flee Ukrainian cities.

We're all thinking about it and judging from the conversations I've been having with family and friends,

people have some basic questions. Like, do sanctions work? Why didn't we see this coming?

And perhaps, most of all, is this going to turn into a world war?

I had the same questions, so I went to my boss, C.F.R. President Richard Haas, and I asked him to join me for a chat in our New York

studio. You may remember Dr. Haas from previous episodes, including his analysis of the

U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.
