Then the people of the land discouraged the people of Judah,

and made them afraid to build,

and bribed counselors against them to frustrate their purpose all the days of Cyrus,

King of Persia, even until the reign of Darius, king of Persia.

And in the reign of Ahasaurus, in the beginning of his reign, they wrote an accusation

against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.

Ah, get the picture here. God's people are rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem.

According to God's word, they are doing what God has called them to do,

what the Spirit of God has stirred them to do for the glory of God's name.

And as they're doing it, the people around them are discouraging them.

And doing everything they can, including bribing people to frustrate their purposes and their plans.

They're making accusations against them and the result is fear among

those who are working frustration you can only imagine all the emotions as you're trying to do what

god is calling you to do and you're facing basically attacks from all sides this is

just one of so many places across God's word where we are reminded where we are taught where we

are told by God when you are doing my work, it will not be easy in this world.

You will face discouragement. So don't be surprised. You will face fear. You will experience

frustration. You will experience accusations against you.

This is one of the names of the adversary, the devil. He is the accuser. He is the deceiver. He is the

destroyer. He does not want God's work to be done in his church among his people. He doesn't
