Security experts are now sounding the alarm on the Chinese AI startup Deepseek,

saying its web login page could be sending user information to a Chinese state telecom.

Yes, another threatening Chinese app.

So let me first be clear. When you use the deep seek

app, you're getting the model that is hosted in China. So that means censored outputs and data

inputs that go to China, essentially no control. And that makes TikTok look like a side show.

If TikTok raises concerns about surveillance, an AI model with unchecked influence over knowledge and decision making, that is an even much bigger risk.

But there's another way to use DeepSeek. Because it is an open source model, other platforms, American platforms can integrate it,

ensuring American data remain secure and strip away the censorship that's baked into the original

model. This is something that perplexity was early and aggressive in doing, leading President

Trump's AI czar, David Sachs, to promote the model on X. You can see that here. Well, now

perplexity CEO, Arvin Srinivas, he's pointing to Deep Se's exploding popularity as an example of why TikTok must be American-owned.

Srinivaz told me that TikTok actually helped Deep Seek go viral and that his experience integrating the Chinese model into his platform makes perplexity the ideal candidate to own the Chinese social network.

And that's also why it's important that an American company runs TikTok.

A lot of DeepSeek's growth came through TikTok, like people creating these videos about deep seek.. And then obviously it has insane distribution, so people go to the app store and install the app.

So it's essential that if we had TikTok running through an American company,

we could at least inform the users through TikTok that, hey, look, make sure, use an app that's hosted in America, not in China.

So I think the same thing we did with Deep Seek, we want to do it with TikTok.
