Summary

Welcome to the '5th Thing' with Amy & Kat!! Today’s quote is: “It is okay to disappear until you feel like you again.” Kat had to sit with this quote for a second because fully disappearing from life and all of life’s responsibilities is not something she would suggest…but taking time for self-care is very important and you may 100% need to step away from life at times to give back to yourself…refill your cup!! There is also no need to force yourself to show up if you don’t absolutely have to…so that is how we are comprehending this quote. Amy then shares an email from a listener whose dad was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and his particular type got her curious about genetic testing. Shockingly, at age 31, her tests revealed she does in fact have cancer. Our hearts are heavy for this listener…but we hope her email will motivate us all to be proactive with our bodies and that we’ll be encouraged by her mindset. She shared that she's not a big believer in “everything happens for a reason,” but she very much appreciates what Donald Miller taught us in a previous episode when facing challenges: “What is this preparing me for?” Amy & Kat also share what self-care looks like for them, what TV shows they’re loving right now, and some fun game recommendations…because everyone needs a good game night from time to time!!

It is okay to disappear until you feel like you again. Very simple. I like it. It is okay to disappear until you feel like you again as a therapist when you hear that cat.

2:21.4

Like what, what does that mean for you?

2:23.4

Well, I think at first when you read that to me, I was like, I don't know if I like that, but I think you have to like kind of peel it apart of sometimes I just need to take a break. I need to like go be with myself. I need to like take some space.

2:35.4

Self-care. Yeah.

2:37.4

It could be as simple. It doesn't mean like go disappear walk yourself away from all your responsibilities.

2:42.4

And you feel like you again because about once a month, I would totally disappear for seven days. And then I'd be like, okay, kind of feel like me again. What I miss.

2:53.4

And obviously we can't do that. But it could be just stepping away and you know, like you were saying, it could be a simple act of self-care or something to take care of your self versus this idea that we have to always just force ourselves to show up no matter what.

3:08.4

I think that's what it.
