Wonder. It's a sunny afternoon in September 1949, outside a hotel in downtown Columbus, Ohio,

nearly three years after Ed Boyd was hired to manage Pepsi's special market sales team.

The six foot two 35 year old Ed storms out of the building into the parking lot, trailed by one of his salesman.

The hotel has just informed Ed that he and his colleague, 25-year-old Charlie Wilson, must leave

the premises even though they were allowed to check in the night before.

The day manager of the hotel has said they don't allow black guests and told the men to leave.

Charlie calls after his enraged boss.

Ed, Ed, wait up.

Go pack your things, Charlie, you heard the man.

Well, what about you?

Ed crosses the street, barely stopping for a passing car.

Geez, Ed, be careful.

Where are you going?

Find a pay phone.

I don't think the hotel's going to let me use theirs.

You going to call the Association?

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People are N N-Double A-C-P, is an activist group fighting

for African American rights. Ed's recently worked with them on discrimination suits

for incidents exactly like the situation he's facing today.

But Charlie's not sure calling them is a good idea.

Because maybe we should think this through for a minute.
