Summary

What do most people fear as they reach advanced old age? Not being able to take care of themselves — losing freedom. So why are so many willing to give up freedom for security? How can you be happy knowing others are taking care of you? You might be content. But can you be happy? Nancy Pelosi has announced that she’s stepping down as the leader of House Democrats. How much difference will it make? None. The new leader will be another leftist… A new cable company catches flak because they announce they will focus on traditional marriage stories. Dennis talks to Christopher Marquis, Professor of Chinese Management at the University of Cambridge. His new book is Mao and Markets: The Communist Roots of Chinese Enterprise (Yale University Press, 2022).

I'm a thought for you, my friends. Other than terrible pain and illness, what is it people most

1:05.6

fear when they get older? Think about it. So on where is our thinking, our thinking music,

1:16.5

our thinking theme, you know, the old, that's it. All right, it's pretty close, not bad, not bad.

1:27.2

All right, the answer is not being able to take care of yourself. Correct? That's people's

1:34.8

greatest fear. People don't fear dying. I mean, some people do obviously. People lamented,

1:44.6

it is sad, but it's the fear while living, let's put it that way, is I can't take care of myself.

well, as most of you know, I have a lecture there.

2:17.9

and though Finland is not considered specifically a Scandinavian country,

2:24.6

its language is completely different from any other in the world. I know it's related to Hungary,

2:29.3

but that's irrelevant. If you're a philologist, that's fascinating, but otherwise it means nothing,

2:35.3

a fin and a Hungarian cannot talk to each other with any understanding.
