Imagine you're a young kid in Brazil in the 1940s.

The sun is shining and you're running barefoot in the dusty streets of a small town called

Trey Corrossoins.

You hear laughter and shouting as your friends gather for a game of soccer, but you don't have a leather ball or fancy cleats.

Instead you're kicking around a grapefruit or a ball made out of old socks and rags tied together with string.

Your name is Edson Arontes Donacimento, but to the world you will soon be known by one

name Pele.

You love soccer more than anything.

Sometimes you even play until the stars come out and your mom has to call you home for dinner. Life isn't always

easy in the state of minasuries. Your family doesn't have much money and often your shoes are more

holes than leather. But when you're out on the street dribbling around rocks and navigating the

uneven dirt paths with your homemade ball, you feel powerful. You feel free. In those moments, you aren't just a boy

with no shoes. You are the happiest kid in the world. This is how the legend began.

Pele didn't start out as a famous superstar with a golden trophy. He started out just like any

other kid with a dream, practicing his footwork with a ball made of socks and a heart full of hope.

Pellet was born on October 23rd, 1940. His father, Juan Ramos de Nassimeno, known as Dondino, had been a talented soccer player himself.
