Actually, is this a theory of comedy that trying to be funny is the best way to definitely

definitely not be funny?

Absolutely, I would agree with that.

People that try too hard, it's a natural thing and a lot of times you see people fail

when they try to be funny.

It's like the guy at the party that's talking way too much to try and press the ladies

is usually very unfunny.

Desperation in any sense is usually unattractive, romantic desperation.

So you can't be intentionally, ironically funny.
