Mark 6:21–29 - [21] But an opportunity came when Herod on his birthday gave a banquet for his nobles and military commanders and the leading men of Galilee. [22] For when Herodias’s daughter came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his guests. And the king said to the girl, “Ask me for whatever you wish, and I will give it to you.” [23] And he vowed to her, “Whatever you ask me, I will give you, up to half of my kingdom.” [24] And she went out and said to her mother, “For what should I ask?” And she said, “The head of John the Baptist.” [25] And she came in immediately with haste to the king and asked, saying, “I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.” [26] And the king was exceedingly sorry, but because of his oaths and his guests he did not want to break his word to her. [27] And immediately the king sent an executioner with orders to bring John’s head. He went and beheaded him in the prison [28] and brought his head on a platter and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother. [29] When his disciples heard of it, they came and took his body and laid it in a tomb. (ESV)

1:08.2	so that we understand what the Lord has to say to us today.
1:13.2	Lord God, open our minds, open our hearts, enable us to receive what you have to say,
1:18.8	enable us to understand it, and enable us to apply it rightly. In Jesus' name, amen.
1:25.9	All right, friends, Mark, chapter 6, verses 21 through 29, puts us right in the
1:31.1	middle of what I'm calling a flashback episode. It's Mark telling us a story that happened previously.
1:38.4	You see, because Jesus has been doing miracles, he's sent out his disciples, they've been doing
1:43.0	miracles, and King Herod heard about it.
1:46.3	But King Herod was thinking that what was happening was that a man he had killed, John the
1:52.5	Baptist, had actually been raised from the dead, perhaps by the power of God. Perhaps not. He didn't
1:58.9	really know what was going on. But he thought all these miracles going on was because of John being raised from the dead.
2:05.9	And then Mark goes back and tells us why he thinks that. You see, because Herod had taken John captive. And Herod's wife, Herodius, had a grudge against John and wanted to see him killed. So we come to verse 21 today
