Summer, 2013, J.J. Abrams calls Lawrence Kazden to discuss writing Star Wars Episode 7.

Uh, hello?

Uh, hey Larry, it's JJ. Uh, I just wanted to follow up regarding Daisy's character, Kira, uh, sorry, uh, Ray, and who she might be related

to. Uh, that's a good idea, JJ. You know, when we wrote Empire, George really shrunk the universe

down from this big war to a connected family and made it all about relationships, and I love

that type of storytelling. So that's a good idea. Okay, great.

So, uh, I have an idea.

Uh, I have a hat here and, uh, some ping pong balls,

and I wrote the name of a famous Star Wars character on each of them.

So, uh, I will jingle them around, and, uh, we'll pick one out, and we'll connect Ray to that character.

Okay, we're jinglingling and we're jangling. Here we go. Uh, it is Kenobi. Uh, Obi-1, Kenobi.

Uh, so we're going to set her up as a Kenobi. Uh, uh, okay, JJ, but I prefer her to be connected

to Han Solo. He's my favorite character, uh, because... Uh, that's great, Larry, but, uh,

the balls have spoken. Uh, so let's go with that. great, Larry, but, uh, the balls have spoken.
