Peacemaker is a direct spinoff of last year's The Suicide Squad, the second and better film

about a Black Ops team composed of many DC universe supervillains.

The HBO Max series shares a lot of that movie's comedic DNA, it too was written and directed

by James Gunn and it stars John Cena, reprising his role as a shiny, helmeted super soldier

who loves peace so much he's willing even eager to slaughter folk to get him.

I'm Gwyn Weldon and today we're talking about Peacemaker on pop culture happy hour from NPR.

Joining me today is Laura Cerecool, she is a freelance writer and movie critic welcome back Laura.

Hi, thank you, thank you for having me.

Oh this is gonna be fun.

At the start of Peacemaker, John Cena's character is released from federal custody in exchange

for joining yet another super secret Black Ops team investigating a mysterious extra terrestrial

threat.

Big great day all rook shows up as rookie team member at a bio plus Jennifer Holland as

the no nonsense hard court Steve A.G. as the surly iconos and Chico de Iwuchi as team leader

Mern also hanging around is want to be try hard and completely clueless sort of hero vigilante

who was played by Freddie Stroma.

Peacemaker also has a sidekick bald eagle named Eagley.

This show is gleefully very intentionally and I would say even defiantly adolescent in

its sensibilities it serves up lots of splattery gore and crude humor it never takes itself

too seriously and it's got no shortage of glam metal needle drops.

It also boasts an opening credit sequence so goofy so dumb it defies you to hit that skip

intro button.
