| 0:00.0 | Hello everyone! I know it's been a while, but I'm happy to let you know that right now I'm writing a new mini-season of peace out. It'll be about kind notions in motion, which just means putting kind thoughts into action. There will be three episodes and they'll be out later this fall. In the meantime, today I'm so excited to share a new episode from the Kids Listen's Big Emotions Mashups. This is part two of their episode on jealousy and openness. In this episode, the focus is on what you can do to help yourself when you feel those feelings of jealousy, a very big emotion that can be very tricky to deal with, for kids and also grownups. When I was growing up, I had a lot of jealous and envious feelings, And one thing that actually helped me was gratitude. So I'm very excited and proud that the episode you're about to listen to includes a gratitude exercise that we did in our jealous much episode from season two. If you've been listening to Peace Out for a while, you might remember that we met our friends, Kayla the Red Panda, and Chuff the Snow Leopard in season 2. Kayla and Chuff were on a treasure hunt in the Himalayan Mountains, and along the way, Kayla starts to feel envious of Chuff, and has to deal with it, all while trying to find an ancient treasure. I hope you enjoy this big Emotions mashups episode. The voice you'll hear first is a host, Dr. Eileen Kennedy Moore from the Kids Ask Dr. Fantastic Podcast. Other podcast friends you'll hear are Chop Chop, Tales from the Cloud Sea, and Koala Tots, all super awesome podcasts for kids. I also want to thank everyone who works so hard on this series, especially Tal Kelly, Jenna Clark, and Dr. Eileen Kennedy-Mor. If you like what you hear, you can find the podcast links in the notes. Okay, that's it for me. Before we start today's episode, let's get ready by taking a few deep breaths together to bring more oxygen into our bodies to help ourselves slow down and relax. Ready? Take a deep breath in and let it out. Breathe in and breathe out. Breathe in and let it out. Beautiful. It's time to sit back, relax and enjoy. Here is Big Emotions. Kids listen mashups about feelings. Jealousy and openness. Part 2. Welcome back to part 2 of our journey through jealousy and openness. In part 1, we explored how jealousy can show up when we're worried about losing someone's attention to another person and how envy can sneak in when we compare ourselves to others. We also explored the differences between these two emotions, and noted that they can sometimes be confused with one another. In part two, we're going to lean into the opposites of those tricky emotions. Openness and contentment. These feelings invite us to try new things, |
| 4:06.8 | connect with the world around us, |
| 4:08.8 | and appreciate what we already have. |
| 4:11.8 | We often have more than one feeling at the same time. |
| 4:15.8 | Positive feelings don't erase painful feelings, |
| 4:19.2 | but they can balance or soften them. |
| 4:21.8 | So get comfy, settle in, |
| 4:24.3 | and let's keep exploring together. We'll start with a taste of openness. Literally. Chop Chop is a fun food focus podcast where hosts Harry and Sally encourage kids and families to explore cooking and eating meals together. In this episode, they get curious about some interesting and surprising foods. Think you're open to trying something new? So now, for a little bit more about us. The first time that I remember thinking about food was when I was about 10 years old, and I caught a fish and I cooked it by myself, and I was so proud, and I remember that feeling of being able to make food for myself, and how delicious it was, and how great I felt. Sally, what kind of things did you eat as a kid? To be honest, I wasn't much of an eater, although I loved to cook. My parents told me that the only time I really ate real amounts was we went to our local deli, which I now find pretty surprising. When I was a kid, I never liked licorice, but now I love fennel. In fact, I have it growing in my garden. And I love the flavor of anus. Sally, is there anything that you liked as a kid that you don't like now or vice versa? Well, I will say I loved licorice as a kid. I love fennel and I love anus now. But I hated meatballs then and I hate them now. Huh, do you remember the book, Cloudy, with a chance of meatballs? I sure do. When I was reading it to my son, Frank, a few years ago, I turned the page and it shows people looking nauseous, surrounded by piles and piles of sandwiches. And it says, Lunch one day brought 15-inch drifts of cream cheese and jelly sandwiches. Everyone ate themselves sick in the day ended with a stomach ache. Well, while reading this, I realized that as a kid, I always said I didn't like cream cheese and jelly sandwiches when they were offered to me, and I believe that I didn't actually think that they were gross, but it was because of this book and the illustration on that page. Harry, I think the moral of the story is that when it comes to eating and trying new foods, forget everything bad You've ever heard or in your case seen open your mind and then open your mouth. I agree. I think you should always try everything at least once even if you think you might not like it Cream cheese and jelly sandwiches or maybe even black licorice Being open doesn't mean you have to like everything you try. It just means you're willing to give it a chance. Trying new foods is one way to practice openness in everyday life. You're stepping out of your comfort zone, opening your mind and letting yourself be surprised. |
| 7:27.0 | Remember, even if it's not your favorite, you've already done something brave just by giving it a go. Being open isn't only about food, it's a mindset you can use it in so many parts of your life. meeting new people to exploring new ideas or even trusting your friends |
| 7:49.3 | enough. use it in so many parts of your life. From meeting new people, to exploring new ideas, or even trusting your friends enough to let them have other friends. How else can you be open? And now for something completely different. Tales from the Cloud C is a comedy adventure improv podcast which means everything you hear is made up on the spot. As you listen think about how open everyone in this clip had to be to add live like that. No script, no plan, no rules. Just openness to responding to each other |
| 8:26.6 | and contributing to the story they build together. |
| 8:30.8 | It's about two siblings who find a secret in their attic |
| 8:34.7 | that transports them to a world of floating islands, |
| 8:38.7 | sky pirates, and steam-powered robots. |
| 8:42.8 | Where they go on missions for the mysterious captain's squid hand and his crew. Okay. Oh, we're about to get proclaimed. Oh, no, no, no, no. Yeah, right. Right, crinkle, and exactly. Okay. What are we going to do, children? Yes. Yes, Mrs. Mayor. Yes. Don't let my husband know that I'm talking to you, but... You're not gonna proclaim us, are you? No. No, I... I couldn't possibly. Okay. He's the best proclaimer in the world. Ah, I love the proclaimers. I didn't... That witch? What? Yeah? That witch is actually his sister. What? and I've been wanting them to get back together and be friends. If you take me to her, maybe I can talk to her. Yes, I do. And if I get to our house, we would have to... Two stubborn! I would walk 500 miles with you if it meant that we could get to this. And I would walk 500 more to support you. |
| 9:45.2 | I don't know what I would do if my brother didn't want to see me for two years. |
