And the power of pop.

Today we're talking about pop music and love. But before we talk about love, and I know you have a lot to say about this,

this being your summer of love, I have to admit that I have a strange relationship

with pop music.

That's what you're going to say with love?

No, we can get on.

With pop music, yes.

It's only recently that I kind of got to grips with it.

When I was a child, I had a real mental problem with pop music.

I used to think that it was like, it was the devil.

It was, um, it was like white bread. It was like, what did the teenage owl listen to?

Well, I'm not sure about the teenager. I'm talking more like the seven-year-old Al would listen,

was quite into things like Mozart and classical music.

And this kind of stuck with me, you know, through most of my, probably my teenage years.

Even at uni, I think I was listening to Verdi and things.

So, like, it's only now that I'm kind of catching up, you know, I'm getting into it. You're having a sort of late adolescence.

Yeah, I think I'm having a late adolescence. I'm getting into, like, Amy Winehouse.

When I was writing my unpublished novel, I was listening to a lot of Rihanna.

It was a lot of Rihanna?
