0:15.4	Starting with, we need to talk about Luigi Mangione today for two reasons.
0:18.5	The first is that Luigi Mangione has now been charged with first-degree murder in furtherance of terrorism. And the second is that a lot of the youth of America
0:25.0	lusts for blood. Now, we'll start with the charge because the new charge doesn't replace its
0:28.7	existing second-degree murder charge, but it just gives a potential jury another option and also
0:32.9	highlights an interesting quirk of New York law. Because in most jurisdictions across the United States, a first degree murder charge just requires premeditation.
0:39.1	But in New York, it's actually a very narrow set
0:41.2	of circumstances that qualify.
0:42.4	With one such requirement being that the alleged crime
0:44.4	is, quote, intended to intimidate or coerce
0:46.5	a civilian population, influence the policies
0:48.7	of a unit of government by intimidation or coercion,
0:51.3	affect the conduct of a unit of government
0:53.1	by murder, assassination, or kidnapping.
0:55.2	And you had Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, adding,
0:57.4	This was a killing that was intended to evoke terror.
1:02.3	And we've seen that reaction.
1:05.5	You know, the statutory elements we can go into, but it's the most basic term.
