Hi, so I was hoping that the first thing I'd be saying to you this year would be happy New Year,

0:04.5

but it has been anything but that. As many of you know, the first scheduled show of the year,

0:08.8

it wasn't even supposed to be happening until Monday, January 6th, but there's been too much

0:12.4

craziness going on not to talk about it. So with that said, buckle up and let's just jump into it.

0:17.6

Because we've got a truck attack in New Orleans, a bombing in Las Vegas, a shooting

0:21.4

in New York, and just a bunch of horrible, horrible shit.

0:24.1

But let's start with the deadliest attack.

0:25.4

First, New Orleans.

0:26.4

Right, because the streets of the city's historic French Quarter, they were teeming

0:29.1

with people Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

0:31.2

Not only to celebrate the New Year, but also to attend a college football playoff game

0:34.5

at the nearby Superdome. But then at around 3.15 in the morning, a Ford pickup truck veered around a police barricade on Bourbon Street and drove straight

0:40.8

for the pedestrians. And this is the barrier system meant to prevent vehicle attacks like this

0:44.6

was reportedly being repaired in preparation for the Super Bowl in February. And so the truck plowed

0:48.4

through a crowd of people with the driver, reportedly a 42-year-old man exiting the vehicle and shooting at the cops, with him reportedly killing 14 people and wounding around 30 others in total before he himself was shot dead by

0:58.6

cops at the scene. And this is you have local police saying the two officers were injured but

1:02.0

are stable. Now with that said, we are still learning the identities of all the victims, but some

1:05.8

have already come out. And I think it's important to put a human face on these numbers. So what we're seeing is that among the dead, you have people like 27-year-old Nicole Perez,

1:12.6

a mother who reportedly brought her four-year-old son to the deli that she managed when she was off from school

1:16.6

and taught him math in the alphabet in the storage room, as well as 28-year-old Martin Tiger Beshe,

1:21.6

a former Princeton football player whose mother reportedly told him how much she loved and was proud of him as he lay dying in a hospital bed.

1:28.1

As well as Karim Badawi, reportedly a Palestinian-American who had just started college and was beloved in his community.
