Something unusual is happening just off the coast of Cuba.

Over the past several weeks, U.S. military reconnaissance flights have surged

around the island in a way that we haven't seen publicly before, and the aircraft involved

are not your average patrol planes. These are some of America's premier surveillance and

intel-gathering platforms, the same kind of assets the Pentagon used ahead of operations involving Venezuela and Iran.

According to a new CNN analysis, a publicly available flight tracking data, the U.S. Navy and Air Force have conducted at least 25 intelligence gathering flights near Cuba since early February.

Most of those missions were concentrated around Havana and Santiago
