Summary

Matt is a head Wildlife Biologist at a leading whitetail research ranch since 2009. He’s currently part of an amazing research project collecting some of the most extensive deer data that I’ve ever witnessed. My son Harry was part of a recent capture project involving several wildlife biology students and a massive research project specific to whitetail studies. Matt talks through some amazing topics about whitetail survival rates based on age, the myths of culling theories, mature buck growth and max potential among other fascinating facts based from scientific data and controlled studies. He has Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Sciences from Auburn University, a Masters of Science in Range and Wildlife Management from Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

Alright, alright. Welcome back to another Knock-On Podcast. I'm here with I think my

0:33.8

good buddy Matt. What's there to say?

0:36.3

We'll say it to say. We don't have a few adventures together. We have. We have. We've been out

0:53.6

going to be cool. But Matt is just a ridiculous resource for white tail management. And I

just thought this was going to be such an important podcast because some of the stuff you've

told me with all the places I've been throughout just I guess my life going to some pretty

1:16.0

awesome white tail spots or having friends that are just white tail fanatics. Some of

the stuff that you and I have talked about I feel like are totally new to maybe some of

1:30.3

the ways at least people in the Midwest or people that are managing properties up north

1:35.4

where I'm from. Yeah, I think it's very region-specific. We're in South Texas which is a

1:41.6

different different soils, different atmosphere, different land ownership, large private

1:48.4

tracks of private ranches. So you have control. But some of the management techniques we use

1:53.3

are applicable to other regions of the country. I think it's important because for me when

1:59.4

I first started like started hunting on a family's place down with my uncle and my grandfather

2:05.6

taking me down in Mississippi and in the deep south. It's hard to have a place where it's
