That is, in this chapter, Freire explains explicitly that political literacy, which is called cultural competence or racial literacy today, should replace the usual, actual literacy in education. 0:30.7	literature and these interminable sub-series about Pala Freire and within that this other interminable
0:37.9	sub-sub-series about Pala Freire's the politics of education. His book from 1985 that broke him out
0:45.7	into the North American education scene. Colleges of education had largely ignored his kind of
0:51.8	magnum opus which is called the pedagogy of the oppressed which was written in 1970 up until
0:57.3	the publication and promotion of this book which as we read in the critical turn in education by
1:04.3	Isaac Gottsman we learned that this book got a favorable review in the Harvard education review.
1:11.0	It was heavily championed by Henry Drew who had already become Pala Freire's chief evangelist
1:18.2	and Henry Drew had set the stage to make sure this book would get taken up by hundreds of Marxist
1:24.5	educators that he had helped get tenured in colleges of education in the preceding maybe five to ten
1:30.5	years and that's really how our education became Marxified became Freire and in what you
1:37.2	understand now after having listened to so many of these episodes going through this book and
1:41.6	tremendous detail is that our kids go to Pala Freire's schools just like we live in Herbert
1:46.0	Marcus's world our kids go to Pala Freire's schools and this was not a mistake this is part of the
1:53.1	this is the successful branch of the long march through the institutions whereby the Marxists
1:58.0	were able to infiltrate our key cultural pillars in particular in this case education and kind of
2:03.6	lead from there into everything else and so we've gone through seven chapters of this book
2:10.8	did a couple of episodes on the introduction which is by Henry Drew did a couple of
2:15.6	episodes going through chapters going through chapters one through four to chapters per
