Hello, I'm James.

Thanks for joining me tonight for Sleep Scriptures,

as we hear the book of Colossians in the New International Version.

The book was written by Paul from prison to the Church of Colise.

Paul thanks God that the Colossians have been faithful, showing love for God and others because of the hope they have in Jesus.

He prays that they would grow in their wisdom about Jesus and share that Jesus is the human image

of God who brings a new creation. Paul relates his imprisonment to participating in the suffering

of Jesus. He believes that his punishment for preaching that Jesus is the Messiah is not

a sign of defeat, but a cause for joy.

The joy we have in a new way of living through Christ, because of his resurrection.

The cultural pressure to resist this gospel message was strong in Colise.

They felt pressure to either worship Jesus as one of many

gods or to adhere to the old laws of the Torah. Paul tells the Colossians that giving

into either of these pressures would deny the message of the gospel, that Jesus is the only
