On this week’s podcast, Rad features Paul R. Bruno who has spent twenty years studying and writing about the early history of Jeep. He discusses the genesis of this iconic vehicle and its legendary ability to perform in basically any environment.

0:00.0 | You're listening to software, radio, special operations, military meals and straight talk with the guys in the community. |
0:30.0 | Hey, welcome to another episode of Soft Rep Radio. I am your host, Rad, and with me, I have a very special guest. |
0:44.0 | Now, you are probably used to me talking to somebody who's a green beret, who's Delta Force, Navy Seals, and that's not going to change here. |
0:51.0 | We're just going to talk about the means of transportation over the years of conflict that this device, this machine, this beast, this soldier, this warrior has been on the battlefield throughout time. |
1:05.0 | And I'm going to introduce Paul, who has written a book for you to enjoy. Paul, let's talk about Jeeps. |
1:12.0 | I think I can handle that, Rad, you know, we'll see. We'll see if I live up to your usual standards. Tell us the name of your book. |
1:20.0 | Would you like me to talk about first? Tell me the name of your book. No problem. I've actually written three books, what I call on early Jeep history. |
1:28.0 | Okay. And I define early Jeep history because I can, because it's me, right, Rad? You know, just, you know, let's make it up as we go along. |
1:36.0 | I'm so excited. I'm so excited to have this conversation about Jeeps. |
1:39.0 | Yeah, no worries. So early Jeep history can break, we broken up into three periods, the end of war one to October 1940, October 1940 to March of 1941. |
1:51.0 | And then March of 1941 to November, December 1941, just before we got in the war. Okay. |
1:59.0 | And so I've written three books. The first book is called project management and history. And that covers the period up to October 1940 from a project management perspective. |
2:11.0 | Then I wrote a second book called the original Jeeps. And that covers the period going all the way from war one to March of 1941. So we've got two thirds covered in the second book. Okay. |
2:27.0 | And the second book, there's three Jeeps on the front, which were the three original Jeep prototypes. And we go in and both of those book into very fine detail of what happened to where someone on Amazon wrote about the original Jeeps. |
2:43.0 | I'll be giving it clear. This is a little dry with lots of technical detail, but no book has been written that go that covers the creation of the Jeep. And that's better covers the creation of the Jeep. |
2:56.0 | More thoroughly. So then what I decided to do on the third book was to kind of make the story a little bit more accessible to people. We wrote wrote compiled what we call the original Jeeps and pictures. |
3:10.0 | And it's an images book. And this book is the first one that covers the entirety of early Jeep history all the way where we get in when the United States enters World War two. |
3:22.0 | So on the cover of this book, we have all seven of the original Jeeps. And the book is very readable. I had a friend say they could read through it in an hour. So we've got three. |
3:36.0 | Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And again, the new book, which will spend, you know, a majority of our time talking about just wanted to make the story more accessible to more people that they could find out what happened through the images. |
3:50.0 | And then if they want to go into the detail, they can purchase the original Jeeps. So that's kind of the overall story of the books. |
3:58.0 | Okay, that's awesome. And so is there no, it's awesome. See, the reason why I was so excited to have you on on the show today is because, you know, a lot of folks don't understand that Jeep and Ford and, you know, Ford, Willie's Jeep had this relationship back in the day to try to get government contracts to go mechanized, right? |
4:17.0 | So we're trying to get, you know, a beast on the battlefield other than horses. And they're like, we need something that can, you know, take a beating, you know, fit some troops, take wounded. |
