At tonight's Harris v. Trump debate, one of the main topics is sure to be a comparison of their proposals for the

economy, especially inflation, which continues to be the number one issue cited by so many

Americans, despite a lot of media coverage of many other things. We're focusing closely on the

economy on this show as well, and will continue to do multiple segments. In August, I got to speak with New York Times columnist

and Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman

about what he calls Kamelanomics.

I began with a clip of Harris from her Democratic convention speech.

An opportunity economy where everyone has the chance to compete and a chance to succeed.

Whether you live in a rural area, small town or big city.

And as President, I will bring together labor and workers and small business

owners and entrepreneurs and American companies to create jobs, to grow our economy, and to

lower the cost of everyday needs like health care and housing and groceries. We will provide access

to capital for small business owners and entrepreneurs and founders. And we will end America's

housing shortage and protect Social Security and Medicare.

So now for today's podcast, we will present my conversation with Nobel Prize-winning economist

and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman.

He likes some parts of the Harris economic agenda more than others.

Dr. Krugman, always good to have you on. Welcome back to WNYC. All right. Good to be back on. So first, is there a cohesive

and articulated vision yet that deserves the name Kamlanomics? Sure. I mean, it's not really

very different from Bidenomics, at least as, you know, as, as, as, as, as it was at the beginning. If you look back to Biden at the start with the build back better agenda, most of what Harris is proposing now can be said to be, you know, getting, completing that,

getting the parts of bill back better that couldn't get through the Senate because the marginal
