Why are they so bereft after the cross?

Well, if they're only reading Jeremiah, instead of Jeremiah in concert with Isaiah 53,

you could say New Covenant is great.

They wouldn't be thinking about the cross.

They'd just be thinking about the next step in Jeremiah, which is Zion, security, everything turning out right.

The glory without the suffering.

Absolutely.

And that's what Jesus said.

This is a new covenant in my blood.

He's bringing the Isaiah 53.

They really weren't quite prepared, if I read Luke 24, right.

Jesus haven't explained to him, no, I had to suffer, had to die.
