Summary
Welcome, welcome, welcome to episode THREE HUNDRED of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! The Gerard Butler edition! We made it! Well, zero chances of Gerard sightings here, as Pip is joined this week by a mildly abbreviated by nonetheless great chat with the truly excellent director PAUL FEIG!
With his new film ‘Last Christmas’ on the horizon, now is the perfect time to catch Paul, and Pip does just that, managing to pick him up on all things directorial and cinematic philosophy. Beginning with the importance of eye contact in an interview, they get cracking on it all - the film in question (‘Last Christmas’), his old Xmas film ‘Grounded’, the perennial success carrot to chase in a Xmas film, whether or not you can have too much fun on set, whether or not moments are funny in front of a crowd, fatal flaws and runaway trains, finding intimacy in London, well rounded characters and not just mindless representation, aiming for a perfect cast, getting along with said cast, film vs TV, the need for honesty behind the scenes, relating to women and a whole lot more in not a huge amount of time… Also some extrapolated thoughts up top from Pip about a point hinted at near the end - all will make sense! It’s a goody, and definitely a conversation starter I would say. Enjoy! EPISODE 300!!!

| 0:00.0 | Welcome, welcome, welcome. This is the distraction pieces podcast episode 300. |
| 0:05.7 | Have we done 300? This is madness. This week's podcast is with the amazing Paul Fake |
| 0:12.3 | who has got a new film out called Last Christmas, which as you'll hear, I really enjoyed. |
| 0:17.6 | Particularly one part of one of the actors' bodies. That's a curious tease to go into it, right? |
| 0:27.6 | First of all, but he's also the director of Bridesmaids, a simple favour, so many good films. |
| 0:36.5 | You can rule them off the day. He directed multiple episodes of the American office, |
| 0:41.6 | arrested development. He's the creator and director of Freaks and Geeks, so much good stuff. |
| 0:46.8 | So I was really excited to get to help to Paul. It's a little bit of a short episode this week, |
| 0:52.8 | but I was excited about the opportunity. I know there's always a conflict when it's a press |
| 0:59.7 | junket that I have to go right. Am I going to get enough time to get a distraction pieces |
| 1:06.5 | style interview, or is it going to be not enough time and I should pass on it? And believe me, |
| 1:10.1 | I pass on a lot of them, but the opportunity to sit down with someone like Paul was a massive one. |
| 1:15.5 | But if you do find it frustrating that this is a short one, fear not, because last week, |
| 1:20.4 | I had a bonus episode with James Mangold, another amazing director, the director of |
| 1:26.1 | Le Mans 66, Logan walked the line, cop planned, identity, girl interrupted, so many good things. |
| 1:31.9 | So yeah, tons of exciting people. There's something I want to tell you about quickly and address |
| 1:37.7 | beforehand in this one, because it's a small thing that we discuss at the end. And sometimes in |
| 1:45.2 | these podcasts, after a topic, I then want to clarify in case something gets misinterpreted. |
| 1:51.2 | That's not the case on this one. Everything that said, I think, is Paul is wonderfully articulate |
| 1:55.9 | on it. I think I just about got to get my words out in the right order. But it got me thinking about |
| 2:01.3 | something that I wanted to quickly discuss in the beginning. And as it's a short episode, |
| 2:04.3 | I thought we'd have time. There's a lot of you know, I do most of the longer talking at the end, |
