It's complicated as hell, and I'm sure the Patriots coaches are going through this, too. The concern, like, I see the arguments everywhere. The arguments are like, okay, Drake May is emerging to be the best quarterback in the team. It's pretty clear. He's going to get you alive out there. The line is terrible. The weapons are terrible. Like, let's give him a chance to see. We can't. So maybe he might be good, but there's no way he could succeed with this team. The other thing is sometimes guys just come into the league and they're just gamers. They just get out there and ball. And I always think of Russell Wilson as a rookie. There was no reason he was supposed to start. They drafted him, and it's Matt Flynn's job. They signed it from Green Bay.

We have our starter in place and we have our project quarterback. Russell Wilson took the field and was the best player out there. It was undeniable. They're like, we have to play him. He's way better than our guy. We're going to put him out there. And it worked out. I think now, if in the next week, if Drake May is so obviously good, you can't keep him off the field just because, eh, we're not sure. It's a football shame, and there are guys who come in just ready to roll. Everyone wants to say all the guys who fall on their face. Dak, Lamar, Russ, on and on. There's a million guys who are like,

Burrow, I have this right away. Jacoby Percent is never the guy. It's never going to be the guy. He never has been the guy. Everybody in the league knows he's not the guy. He's 18 and 30 as a starter. He's nice. He's congenial. He's a good starter. He's not the starter. It's not a starter.

It's a fake starter.

Kyle Brandt, NFL Network the other day. Jacoby Brissette, fake starter. I may be, but it's a fake quarterback competition. Never a quarterback competition. The thing that just sticks out to me today is how many times and how often Drod Mayo has said there is one. So why does he keep saying it if there's not one? Why does he keep saying it if it doesn't exist? Why? Why? Because it's coach speak. It's coach speak. You always say there's a competition. Okay, but it's a little more directed than that. It is. Why, I'm just trying to answer the question. I know. I'm barking at you.

It's okay.

Why does he keep saying it when there's not one? I think it's a PR spin. For who? For whose benefit? Who are they spinning? The fans. It's for the fans. Yeah. The fans. team has no buzz people think they're going to blow they're going to blow so throw him some red meat yeah there's an open

quarterback competition while the whole time if you're paying attention, he's not working with the ones. And even when he did today, it was fake because they didn't even let him throw. You know, it's, and it goes beyond, Maz, him just saying specifically, or generically, rather, generically, broadly speaking, yeah, everyone's competing.

He doesn't really say it that way.

He's asked specifically about quarterback. He's asked specifically about those guys, and he specifically says, yes, there's still a competition.

Again, this was Friday, the day after the preseason game against the Eagles.

Do you see this as being a competition between the two of them right now as to who is going to be the starting quarterback against Cincinnati?
