So Adam Jones here to give us headlines and chime in with his usual pessimistic darkness.

Bleak outlook, that is, Jones, which we very much enjoy and relish here on Felger and Maz.

We're going to get to the Patriots here in the next little bit, but we'll take your calls on the Celtics.

Gary Washburn of the Globe joined us in the last hour. I had some interesting things to say about the Celtics. He believes they need a shake-up. He thinks they need a shake-up, and I think a lot of you agree with them. Johns and Brookline, go ahead, John. Hey, Mad, so, you know, I'm a casual Celtics fan. I couldn't tell you who they should target.

But to speak of the, like, unwatchability of it, I watched the college all weekend. And one of the nice things you see there is obviously the product, the skill isn't as good. At least the rest kind of let him bang a little bit and play. And there's not a whistle every time. The shot at the end of the game for Marcus

Smart, he did that little like stop short move to try and draw the foul. And that's, I think it was

to maybe tie the game. I forget who cares. But what I thought about was like, imagine having

the base is loaded and you drop your elbow in front of it. And instead, they, they call a strike on, strike three on you to end the game, even when it hit you. That's what it felt like, because Smart didn't get the call. And I was like happy that they lost. It's just like for someone who doesn't really, you know, I'm watching it because, like, being from here, I like, like basketball. But it's like, what am I doing watching this? It's more or less reality TV with guys that just like... Okay, so John, yeah. John, you're talking about the flopping and, you know, the need to draw fouls all the time, which is a league-wide problem. I'm talking about the Celtics in particular. Just the level of compete, the level of performance, overall, the quality of the product they give you, the honesty of the effort. They don't give you that. No, something stinks on this team and it has for a while now. I mean, Mike was saying the same thing last week, and I think a lot of people believe that. I mean, it's evident when you watch them on a night-to-night basis. So if you want to tell me, Murray, I agree. It's been this way for a while. So if you want to tell me that

they're going to shake it up this week and do something significant to that core, fine.

If you tell me they're just going to kind of make a half-ass move, then I don't want it. I either want something significant. Why? Like if you're not giving up Tatum or Brown, who cares? Okay, because I want any move they make Pac-Man to be significant.

And so when I say that, I mean, if I'm not going to get the significant, I'd rather have a significant move in the off-season than have some sort of half-hast move now. Now, I don't know that. You probably have the wrong GM right now then, because Aang has been afraid of his shadow when it comes to making any moves after the Kyrie trade. Okay, but again, I didn't hire the GM. And in a star-driven league, if you're going to hang on to your two stars, which I believe

that they're going to, I don't think they're going to trade away Tatum or Brown. You need to keep them happy. So a move has to happen here, I think, even in a year that I think they know deep down, they're not going to make any kind of run and compete for a championship. but you have to keep your stars happy in the NBA.

So whether it's a small move or maybe that means getting rid of Stevens, something has to happen here.

And it's something you brought up to Gary Washburn when he was on. So that loss Friday night to the Kings to me was kind of proof that the locker room doesn't really believe in him. Because if as a player, you thought the coach that you wanted was about to leave for another job because there was all the speculation at the end of the week that he was going to maybe go to Indiana and take that gig. And he held a team meeting to tell you he was then staying. Well, wouldn't you be inspired to go out and annihilate a bad team like Sacramento? And instead, the exact opposite happened. Brad said he was remaining his head coach and it kind of took the air out of the room. That's what it looked like to me. Yeah, it felt revealing, didn't it? Yeah. It really felt revealing, Murray. I mean, that's the thing you would think that they'd rally around the coach if they wanted to protect them. And maybe Washburn described the relationship as professional, at least as between Stevens and Tateman Brown, which is really, frankly, and I suppose you could throw smart in there if you want. But at the end of the day, I really look at it. It's got to be those three guys because I don't think the Celtics are trading either one of those two. And frankly, I don't think they're going to fire the coach. And I think part of them not getting rid of him, look, he's done a great job here. He has. he's one of the better coaches in the league. I think part of them not wanting to get rid of him.

And I think this is telling what Danny Aange has been on with Toucher and Rich is like, oh, well, you know, if we were to do something like that.

Or when we talked to Wick Rouseback, like, well, he'd have another job in a second. Like, so you, what, you wouldn't make a move just because he would get another job quickly?

Right.

That's, don't make fear-based moves.
