My guest will not remember this.

I first met him backstage after a performance of David Mamet's play

race, and I was talking to my friend David Allen Greer about the actor, A New McMaster.

And he said, I've seen him before, who, because McMaster is an actor that Harold Pinter

writes about in his book of Playwright's Playwright. And my guest, Sir Patrick Stewart, walked over and said,

of course I know a new McMaster. And you started talking about him. And that same kind of

passion and discernment about acting can be found in his book, making it so a memoir. My guest is

Sir Patrick Stewart. I'm thrilled to have you here. Thank you so much for doing this.

When you started talking about McMaster and seeing him perform and your life as a young actor,

for me it was such a thrill to pick up this book and see so much of that detail here.

Yeah. Well, there's a little story attached to how this all came about.

I had been approached once before by Simon Schuster, who had an offer for me to write a memoir,

but I was working so much TV, stage, and there's no time to be writing a book. And so I always

had to turn it down. This time my agent called me and said, you've had a great offer from

Simon Schuster, and look, Patrick, I know how much you love your job, and I do.

I really love my work.

I mean, the work that I get to do, he said, but there ain't any work.

Nobody's going to be working.
