And now of course we live in a world in which not only do we have unlimited options and Netflix

0:19.3

and if we want to stream television, but also in the way we live our lives. You can go anywhere you want if you jump on a plane. You can study anything you want on the internet. We're so mobile and we're so exposed to so many things that we have become trapped by the amount of

variety in our lives and that's where we end up even in an example I give

Tinder you carry around in your pocket a thousand potential matches, more than a

into the stories and insights of the most innovative and creative minds who started

movements, built thriving businesses, written best-selling books, and created

insanely interesting art.

1:31.0

because we had you here when you wrote your previous book,

1:34.1

The 10% entrepreneur, which was hands down one of my favorite books I've read over the last 10 years.

1:39.0

As I was saying to you before we hit record, that concept of ownership resonated with me so much that

1:43.7

I've been really really hammering people on the importance of ownership of your content, your

1:49.0

audience, I mean so much so that I'm like trying to convince my roommate to stop using

1:52.0

Facebook to build his audience, you know, I'm saying look, you know, the moment the landlord decides to change his mind like a K. A. A. A. The algorithm, you're fucked. So, you know, pardon my French, but given the subject matter of this new book, I thought I would start with a question that I don't believe I've asked you, and that is what social group were you a part of in high school and what impact did that end up having on the choices that you've made throughout your life in your career?
