Patricia Manuel is a professional boxer and groundbreaking transgender athlete.

He is a five-time USA female national amateur boxing champion and made history in 2018 as the first transgender boxer to fight professionally in the United States.

He is also the first US boxer to ever fight as a woman and then as a man.

Pat has been an inspiration to me in my own journey with gender and identity.

His bravery in forging his own path and carving out a space for himself in a sport entrenched in traditional masculinity showed me that we don't have to adhere to what the world thinks a boxer or a pop star should be.

We can just be ourselves and find success, peace, and love doing it.

Would you like to introduce yourself for the world?

My name is Patricia Manuel or Pat, also known in the boxing world as Kakawate or Peanut.

Because my head is so small, I may not notice it now, but it actually is very, very small.

I am talking to you from Dorothy, California, which is Northeastern part of Los Angeles County on what is Tongva land.

And I am known basically as a boxer.

I feel like that's what most people know me as, particularly the first professional male boxer who is transgender to compete.
